In 2063, hopping into space is about as ordinary as catching a bus, so a high school summer camp on a distant planet sounds like no big deal. Aries Spring barely makes it to the spaceport before a thief grabs her purse. Kanata Hoshijima, fast on his feet, gets it back, and it turns out he's one of the kids in her group, B-5. Then they reach the campsite. That's when the black sphere appears. Nine students get swallowed whole and dumped 5,012 light-years from home. No warning. No explanation. They drift until they stumble on an empty ship, the Astra, and it's the only thing standing between them and the void. Food runs low. Air runs low. Nobody knows who sent them or why, and Earth is not just far, it's unreachable without every single one of them pulling together. So they set out across the dark, nine teenagers and a borrowed vessel, with no clue what's waiting at the other end. Was any of this an accident at all?
