Trains left the ground a long time ago. Now they cut through open space, carrying people from one planet to the next on the Galaxy Railways, and the view outside the window is nothing but stars. Manabu Yuuki just signed up with the Space Defence Force, the outfit that guards those routes. He is hot-headed, quick to swing first, and not great at taking orders. On his first real run, the trouble he was trained for finds him fast: a hijacking, a car full of panicking passengers, and a decision that has to be made in seconds. Criminals and things that are not human keep finding ways onto these trains, and the SDF keeps throwing itself in front of them. What Manabu does not get yet is that the badge means more than fighting. A crisis is building, one the whole force may not survive, and he has to figure out what a defender actually is before it lands on them. Can a guy who never learned to slow down carry that weight?
