Earth is dying. The Gamilas Empire has been pounding the planet with radioactive asteroids for years, and what is left of humanity lives underground while the radiation eats its way down after them. One year. That is all anyone has. Then a crashed ship on Mars changes everything: a dead girl, a message from a queen named Starsha on the planet Iscandar, and blueprints for an engine nobody on Earth could have built alone. She is offering a device that can scrub the radiation from the surface. She is also offering it from across the galaxy. So the old sunken battleship Yamato gets pulled up, rebuilt, and pointed at the stars under Captain Okita, with a crew of navy men who have no idea what is waiting for them out there. The Gamilas are not going to sit still and let them pass. A year to get there, a year to get back, and every light year of the trip is a fight. Can a rebuilt WWII relic and a handful of desperate soldiers really outrun extinction?
