It's 1925 in Japan, and baseball is still a curiosity that belongs to men. Only a handful of teams exist, and a girl who runs is already breaking the rules. Fourteen year old Akiko finds that out the hard way. A player tells her straight to her face that women belong at home, not in a classroom. So she decides to prove him wrong. Her answer is a baseball team. She drags her friend Koume into it, and together they have to find players who have never held a bat, talk their parents into allowing something scandalous, and figure out a sport nobody will teach them. It goes badly, then worse. And baseball turns out to be far harder than either of them imagined. Can a handful of schoolgirls really put together a team in a country that thinks the whole idea is ridiculous?
