The Macross drifts through space with a whole city stuffed inside its hull, civilians and soldiers alike, all of them light-years from home and not sure there is a home left to reach. Giant aliens keep coming: the Zentradi on one side, the Meltrandi on the other, and nobody aboard fully understands why the fighting never stops. Then a battle flips everything. The ship shifts into a giant robot, and a young pilot named Hikaru ends up at the controls. He meets Minmay, the city's rising singer, and somewhere between sorties and sleepless nights the two of them fall for each other. Not everyone likes it. She belongs to the crowds now, and he belongs to the war. When the Zentradi grab Minmay, Hikaru and his flight officer Misa have no choice but to head back to Earth with the rest of the fleet. What waits there is worse than any ambush. An old recording surfaces, a song from a time nobody remembers, and Minmay's voice might be the only weapon that can end the bloodshed. Can a pop song really stop two armies that have been killing each other for ages?
