Tetsuo climbs out of the pod into a white silence. Eight years of cold sleep, and the first thing he notices is that nothing moves. No wind. No birds. Just ice stacked in ridges where city streets used to be. The planet got hit one last time while he was under, and that final strike from the aliens did what a decade of warfare never could: it froze everything solid. His robot, Yukio, was torn apart in the last battle. Gone. Tetsuo is the one who lived, and he wakes up to a graveyard with no graves, just survivors burrowed under the ice or huddled around hot springs, scraping by in the dark. He was supposed to protect people. He was supposed to keep a promise. He has no idea what happened down here while he slept, and the people who made it are not exactly rushing to explain. What is left of humanity is hiding, and Tetsuo has to figure out if there is anything worth fighting for anymore. Can one pilot thaw a dead world, or is he just another frozen thing waiting to be buried?
