Serial Experiments Lain
A fourteen year old girl named Lain barely knows how to work a computer. She keeps to herself at school, dodges the classmates who try to drag her out somewhere, and would rather be left alone. Then an email arrives from Chisa, a girl from her class. Chisa killed herself not long ago. Lain opens it anyway, and something in the message pulls her straight into the Wired, a network where voices keep talking long after their owners are gone. That should be impossible. So should the men in dark suits who start showing up wherever she goes, asking her questions and knowing more about her than she does. As the line between the screen and the street keeps dissolving, Lain stops being sure what is real, what is memory, and who exactly she is. Even her own name starts to feel borrowed. Is Lain the one searching through the Wired, or is it searching through her?
