Giant insects are crawling out of the shadows of Edo, and ordinary blades just bounce off their shells. The eighth shogun, Yoshimune Tokugawa, wanted to hear what his people were worried about, so he had suggestion boxes planted all over the city. What he got was a flood of complaints about monsters, and that is how the Insect Magistrates were born, a squad of the deadliest martial artists around. They need more muscle, so they send for Genjuurou Tsukishima, a legendary swordsman from Tsugaru. One problem. He never shows up. Something went wrong back home, something tied to his son Jinbee, and the boy carries the shame of it like a stone in his gut. So Jinbee takes his father's place and rides to Edo, half-trained and terrified, telling himself he will make it right. Now he stands beside fighters who can actually kill these things while he can barely hold his ground. He has guts and not much else. Can a kid who ran once become the samurai Edo needs before the swarm swallows the city whole?
