Musashi and Kojirou set out to become samurai, swinging their swords at anything with horns. Then Kojirou learns his father once rode with the Uesugi clan. That name changes everything. The two friends sign on with Uesugi's campaign against Yamata no Orochi, an eight-headed dragon squatting on Awaji Island and swallowing the whole region bite by bite. The battlefield humbles Musashi fast. He can't fight worth a damn next to the veterans, can't take orders, can't stand beside anyone without getting in the way. And the Obsidian Eight are still hunting him, because something called the Obsidian Goddess lives inside his body, and plenty of people would kill to pry it out. Samurai hoard their demon iron and stab each other in the back over the scraps, so the same warriors who should be cutting down monsters are busy cutting down each other. Musashi has to grow up, learn to trust a squad, and figure out who is actually on his side before the island operation falls apart. But with the Obsidian Eight closing in and every faction scheming for the goddess he carries, can he even tell which battle matters most?
