In the mid 21st century, Planet Catcher Corporation hauls asteroids and comets into position and strips them for ore, and on one of those rocks, Tortatis, lives Nanbu Ushiwaka. He is twelve. He is also the only child ever born in space to survive. Then a military satellite glitches during a routine capture of Halley's Comet, and the operation goes wrong in a way nobody can undo. The corporation cuts the colony loose. The government does too. Suddenly a kid and a few miners are trapped on a damaged asteroid, and the reactor down in the shaft is heating up. They have no rescue ship, no backup, no one answering the radio. Just sealed suits, a failing station, and a clock nobody can stop. Escape means figuring out what the satellite broke and how to survive it before the core melts down or the rock drops into Earth's atmosphere. And Ushiwaka, who was born out here when everyone said it was impossible, is somehow still the one person on board with the most to lose. Can a handful of abandoned miners outrun a reactor that is already counting down?
