Akito just wants to cook. A year after lizard-like aliens from Jupiter wiped out the Mars colony, he's flipping pans on Earth with no memory of how he got there. Then he runs into Yurika, his childhood friend, who now captains a private battleship called the Nadesico. He signs on as its cook, mostly to stay near her and maybe find some answers. The crew is a zoo: otaku, klutzes, oddballs. But that's the joke. They're actually handpicked pros, and the Nadesico is heading back to Mars to fight its own private war. Akito has the nanites to pilot a mecha, so when things get rough, the cook gets shoved into a cockpit he never wanted. All that Gekiganger 3 he watched as a kid? Real battles are nothing like it. So he fights, badly at first, as the ship pushes toward the red planet where his parents died and where the truth about Mars is buried. Can a guy who'd rather be in the kitchen survive a war that keeps pretending to be his favorite cartoon?
