A covert military outfit called Mithril drops two sergeants into a Tokyo high school. Sousuke Sagara, seventeen and raised on battlefields, has to blend in with ordinary teenagers while guarding Kaname Chidori, a girl who has no idea she carries breakthrough scientific knowledge inside her head. Agencies and unknown players want that knowledge. Melissa Mao and Kurz Weber back him up from a distance, but up close it is just Sousuke, a desk, and a hundred ways to blow his cover. Then the twist lands. His new assignment is not some clean surveillance job. Terrorists hit the school, and Sousuke recognizes the man behind the attack, someone tied to his own past. Orders say stay in position. He goes after the threat anyway. Now he is stuck between the mission and the girl, with Kaname growing more suspicious of the strange classmate who keeps showing up wherever danger does. Can he keep her alive without telling her the truth about who he is?
