In the late 21st century, people left Earth behind and moved into space. Then Jupiter sent something back. Hostile creatures came with it, and ordinary humans couldn't fight them. So the scientists made their own pilots: genetically engineered kids called Princes, raised from scratch and trained to sit inside armed robots. Hitachi Izuru is one of them. He studies in Grandzehle, an academic city built for people who never planned on going home to Earth. Books, classes, cafeteria food, that's his life. Meanwhile the thing he was designed for is waiting out past the orbit. Princes don't get to choose. They were built for one job, and the adults around them treat it that way. So what happens when a kid like Izuru starts to want something of his own?
