Gorou Honda comes home after a full season grinding it out in the minor leagues, and the timing could not be better. Japan is putting together a national team for the Baseball World Cup. He is sure his arm is ready. There is just one issue. The roster is already full, and his name is not on it. So he does the only thing he can think of. He shows up as a practice pitcher for the national squad, throwing for a manager who never asked for him, betting that pure speed will change the man's mind. The chance comes with conditions attached. A practice match will pit the veteran national players against the young hopefuls gunning for their spots, and Gorou has to be the most impressive guy on the field. The World Cup itself will gather the best players from every corner of the globe, and standing somewhere on that stage is Joe Gibson, the rival Gorou has waited years to face. Can a pitcher nobody picked force his way onto the biggest team his country has?
