Sora Kurumatani is short. Too short, everyone says, for the game he has loved since he was a kid. He never let that stop him, and he shows up at Kuzuryuu High with one thing in mind: join the basketball club, honor the promise he made to his mother, and win a tournament. Small problem. The team is not a team. It is a hangout for delinquents who could not care less about basketball, and the only two guys left with any real history in the club, the twins Momoharu and Chiaki Hanazono, have already given up on themselves. Momoharu can defend but cannot shoot to save his life. Chiaki runs the offense like a natural, yet both just shrug. So Sora challenges them. One game. His quick feet and constant motion run circles around guys twice his size, and something starts to shift in that gym. It is not just the score. It is the way he refuses to quit on a single play. Bit by bit, the fire these boys thought was dead flickers back to life. But can a short kid with a promise and a bunch of ex-punks really turn a dying club into a real team before the season eats them alive?
