Aoi Mashiro needs train fare, so she swipes two hanging scrolls from her grandfather's attic and hauls them to an antique shop in Kyoto's Teramachi Sanjou arcade, planning to sell them and head home to yell at the ex who dumped her. Simple enough. Then a graduate student named Kiyotaka Yagashira takes the scrolls, studies them, and reads her like a open book, and what he sees is a girl with instincts as sharp as his own. Everyone around here calls him Holmes. Instead of handing her cash, he hands her a part-time job. Now she dusts shelves in the shop and tags along whenever neighbors wander in with odd little problems: a painting that doesn't add up, an inheritance with a lie buried in it, a keepsake somebody swears is genuine. He deduces. She feels. Some days it's the other way around. Nothing here is bloody or loud, just quiet rooms and old objects that remember things people would rather forget. But the customers keep coming, and every one of them is hiding something. What happens when a case finally lands that Aoi's gut gets wrong?
