Every year the Ushiromiya clan sails out to Rokkenjima, their private island, to talk money. This time the old man is dying, so the talk turns to who gets what. Except Kinzou could not care less about the will. His doctor and oldest friend just told him the end is close, and there is only one person he wants beside him: Beatrice, the Golden Witch. So he gets ready to call her back. Then the typhoon hits. Eighteen relatives, stuck with no way off the island. And people start dying. One after another, in ways that make no sense, unless you believe a witch did it. Fantasy or plain murder, nobody can agree, and the ones who insist on an ordinary explanation keep turning up dead too. Is someone in the family using the witch story as cover? Or has Beatrice really come home?
