Episode 3 · Hanoka

Hanoka

Aliens came down to Tokinea years ago and tore everything apart. They called them Citizens of the Stars, and the military answered with the Majin project: mix human genes with theirs, get a weapon that obeys like a person and hits like a star. Number 7 is one of those weapons. A girl, kept behind locked doors on a base, no name worth remembering, just a number and a cell. Then the Citizens attack again, and someone decides it is time to let her out. She can level them all without breaking a sweat. That is the problem. Out on the battlefield she freezes, doubt chewing at her, because what is the point of winning if you are still property. A boy named Yuuri is the one who gets through to her, telling her flat out that she has to fight if she ever wants to be free. Something about his nerve clicks. She wipes out what is left of the invaders. Now the two of them walk away together, no orders, no walls, just a planet that will not stop burning and a question neither can answer. Where do you even look for a purpose when the war never really ends?
