Russell City looks like the kind of place where nothing bad ever happens. Neon signs, busy streets, people going about their business. Then the Horrors show up. Creatures born from human negativity, they tear through the city while everyone else pretends not to notice. The Makai Order fights back from the shadows, running ordinary storefronts as cover, and their strongest weapon is a huge man named Sword. He wears the golden Garo armor, and he carries a secret that could bring the whole Order down. Then everything shifts. The only clue he has is one word: El Dorado. That same word is all Sophie has left of her missing brother, a teenager chasing a ghost she barely understands. Sword runs into her at night, and somehow their two searches are the same search. So they team up. A grown warrior and a girl looking for family, walking straight into something neither of them can name. What exactly is waiting at the end of that word, and who benefits if they never find it?
