Masaru Katou is just a normal seventeen year old, kind to a fault, heading home to celebrate his little brother's birthday. Then a knife goes in. He dies on the street. He wakes up in a Tokyo apartment that isn't a hospital, isn't a morgue, and definitely isn't heaven. There's a black sphere sitting in the middle of the room. It has plans for him. Before he can even ask what's going on, a gun is shoved into his hands and the floor drops out from under him. He lands in the middle of Osaka, where a hunt is already underway, and the rules are brutally simple: shoot anything that isn't human. Standing beside him are an old man named Suzuki, a famous idol named Reika, and a guy named Nishi who has clearly done this before and clearly stopped caring. Masaru doesn't want to kill anything. He wants to go home. But the thing in the black sphere isn't offering refunds, and the other players are already keeping score. Everyone here has died once already. That was the easy part. Now they have to earn the right to keep breathing, point by point, alien by alien, and Masaru is the only one hesitating. How many times can a person refuse to pull the trigger before the game decides he doesn't get to play anymore?
