A meteor shower called the Invertia flattened the old world and left a crater lake behind. On that water sits Rikka, a city of six rival academies, and the Genestella who fill them: kids born with strange powers after the disaster. They settle everything in Festas, televised duels where losing stings and winning gets you noticed. Ayato Amagiri transfers into Seidoukan Academy on a scholarship, and within about a day he stumbles into the room of Julis, the Witch of Resplendent Flames, while she is half dressed. She does not laugh it off. She demands a duel. Then the student council president steps in and voids the whole thing. Ayato admits he could not care less about Festas anyway. He came here looking for his missing older sister, and that is the only reason he is walking these halls. But the search drags him straight into something uglier than a school rivalry, a plot with real teeth behind it, and suddenly staying on the sidelines is not an option if he wants answers. Now he trains and fights alongside some of the strongest Genestella around, Julis included, chasing a lead that keeps slipping away. So what exactly happened to his sister, and who in this city would rather he never find out?
