Shiki Toono wakes up in a hospital bed and the world has gone strange. Everything around him is stitched together by thin lines only he can see, and if he runs a blade along one, the thing simply comes apart. A chair, a wall, a living creature. It all cuts the same. The gift comes with splitting headaches, so he hides it behind a pair of glasses and tries to be a normal second year student in his quiet town. Then his father's death brings him home after eight years away, back to a mansion run by his little sister Akiha, who has her own old fashioned ideas about how a household should work. One evening on the walk home he meets a woman with red eyes. Something snaps in his head. He thinks he kills her. He wakes up later with no memory of how he got there, and the next night two demonic hounds corner him in the dark. He is dead, plainly. Except the woman from yesterday shows up and tears them apart. Her name is Arcueid Brunestud, and she is a vampire princess. Now they are hunting together through a town where bodies keep turning up, and Shiki has to ask himself why he can see the seams in everything. Is he meant to end things, or is that just what the lines want him to believe?
