A bright flash rips through the literature club room one ordinary afternoon, and five people walk out of it with powers nobody asked for. Jurai Andou, the resident eighth grader syndrome case who had been pestering everyone with his fantasies minutes earlier, is the happiest about it. There is just one problem. His black flames look incredible and do absolutely nothing. Meanwhile Tomoyo bends time, Hatoko commands the five elements, club president Sayumi can patch up broken objects and broken people, and little Chifuyu pulls whole creations out of thin air. Jurai is hopelessly outmatched by every single one of them. Sayumi panics first and tries to hand the powers back before someone gets hurt, which turns into an argument, a couple of whacks to the head, and Jurai somehow winning everyone over to keep them. So the club carries on like nothing happened. Snacks, bickering, the usual clubroom nonsense, plus the occasional break to test what they can do now. Nobody knows where the abilities came from. Nobody seems to be rushing to find out. But was that flash really an accident, or did someone make it happen?
