Tomoya Okazaki has already decided how high school ends for him: skipped classes, wasted days, a town he can't stand. Him and his buddy Sunohara, goofing off, nothing else on the schedule. Then one morning, on the hill up to school, a girl stands there mumbling to herself. Out of nowhere she blurts "Bread!" loud enough to make him stop. Her name is Nagisa Furukawa, and shouting the names of food she likes is how she talks herself into being brave. He shrugs it off. Except she keeps turning up. Same hallway, same corner, until he finally gives in and actually talks to her. What he finds out: she lost a whole year to a serious illness, everyone she knew already graduated, and her one wish is to bring back the drama club that died without her. He says sure, he's got nothing better to do. Four other girls get pulled in along the way. Helping each of them means hearing things they don't tell anyone, and somewhere in all that, Tomoya starts to notice the town looks different than it used to. So what happens when the guy who swore he was worthless is the only one who can keep five people from giving up?
