Usagi Tsukino is fourteen and can't seem to do anything right. Tests go badly, mornings start with her running late, and sweets are her one true weakness. Then she spots a black cat in trouble and pulls it out of harm's way. The cat talks. Her name is Luna, and she has been waiting for this girl, not by chance but by design. A brooch gets pressed into Usagi's hands, and suddenly she is Sailor Moon, guardian of the planet, whether she likes it or not. Monsters start crawling out of the shadows. Queen Beryl of the Dark Kingdom sends them to drain energy from ordinary people, and someone has to stand in their way. Usagi barely knows how her own powers work. She stumbles through fights, cries when things get scary, and keeps going anyway. And it turns out punching monsters is the easy part. She still has to track down the lost princess of the Moon Kingdom, find the other guardians who are supposed to fight beside her, and locate the Legendary Silver Crystal before the whole planet pays the price. No pressure for a girl who just wanted to sleep in. But what happens when she finally learns who that princess really is?
