Somewhere out there, a city keeps building itself. Level stacked on level, thousands deep, walls swallowing walls until up and down stop meaning anything. People didn't make this place. They made something else, something they figured they could boss around, and it kept growing after they lost the leash. Now they just try to stay alive inside it. Then a man named Killy shows up. Quiet, armed, walking through the rubble like he's got all the time in the world. He's hunting for the Net Terminal Genes, the one thing that could let a human jack into the Net Sphere and tell the structure to stop. That's the whole prize. Nobody knows if it still exists, or if anyone's left who could use it. Along the way he crosses paths with Cibo. She's the part the original manga never got to. In the middle of the debris she finds a discarded disc, and she starts downloading whatever is on it. Memories, maybe. Somebody's, anyway. Whose head does she end up carrying around in hers, and what happens when Killy runs out of city to search?
