The oceans ran dry. Not completely: whales still cruise through the empty water, but the fish that fed the world are gone. So Japan's Fisheries Ministry looks up instead of down and starts building giant tanks in orbit, hoping to raise a new food supply out past the atmosphere. In Onomichi, a seaside town in Hiroshima, they open a training school for space fishermen. Then the paperwork changes everything. A tougher equal opportunity law means the industry suddenly needs women, and six schoolgirls get picked for the program. They are not veterans or scientists. They are teenagers learning to cast lines in zero gravity, cramming for exams while the whole country watches to see if the experiment floats or sinks. Between the demands of the classroom, the pressure of being first, and the cold fact that nobody has actually made this work yet, the six of them have to figure out what they are really fishing for. Can they pull off what the adults around them only talk about?
