On Sentan Island, the war is something that happens somewhere else. Akiyuki goes to school, drops off his mom's lunch for his dad at the hospital, and the biggest problem is not missing the bus. Then a white-haired girl gets on that bus, and at the school stop, when almost everyone has filed out, she sets off a bomb. The blast tears the bus apart and leaves a strange glow behind. A beam from it stabs straight through Akiyuki's arm. The pain is beyond anything he has felt, and then his body starts to change into something that is not human anymore: a Xam'd. Before he can even process what he has become, the Northern Government launches an attack on the Free Zone with formanoid weapons. Akiyuki is now standing in the middle of a war he grew up only hearing about. What is the white-haired girl after, and why did she choose him?
