Bloodless corpses keep turning up, and spiritualist Himiko Se takes the case thinking it is just another haunting. Then she meets Miyu Yamano. Miyu is a vampire, and not the kind Himiko expected: for years she has hunted the Shinma, demons with godlike power who slip into the human world to torment people, and she sends them back into the dark where they belong. Here is the part that does not sit right. One Shinma has been passing itself off as a member of the noble vampire race, and that is the creature Himiko is really after. So why does a vampire guard humans from monsters? Himiko cannot make herself trust Miyu, cannot shake the feeling that a predator is standing right beside her, smiling. Every new victim pulls her deeper into a fight that was never hers. Miyu keeps hunting. Himiko keeps watching, caught between the case and the girl who solved it for her. When the thing wearing a vampire's face finally shows itself, whose side will Himiko be standing on?
