Episode 2 · Trickster

Trickster

Kensuke Hanasaki is a homeschooled kid who spends his days with the Boy Detectives' Club, a small agency run by Kogoro Akechi. One ordinary assignment goes wrong when a stray dog trots up to a stranger, wagging its tail, and the boy cuts it down without a word. That boy is Yoshio Kobayashi, and he wants nothing to do with anyone. He also cannot die. Something like mist hangs around him, shredding anything that gets close, and no wound ever finishes him off. Kensuke makes him an offer: join the club and help solve their cases, and in return he will hunt for a way to actually kill him. Yoshio shrugs and goes along with it, mostly because he has nothing better to do. Slowly, case by case, the kid who dreams of dying starts to notice the people around him. But someone is pulling strings from the dark, a figure known as the Fiend with Twenty Faces, and the club has no idea what he is really after. Can a boy who refuses to live ever care enough to protect the ones who want to keep him alive?
