Totomaru Isshiki wants to help people. He really does. Problem is, he is a terrible detective: clumsy, slow on the uptake, the kind of cop who stares at a crime scene and sees nothing. So when a case goes cold for months, he swallows his pride and tracks down a recluse named Ron Kamonohashi, once the brightest star at the elite BLUE academy. Ron solves the whole thing in under a day. Then comes the part nobody warned Totomaru about: people around Ron tend to die, and it is not a figure of speech. Ron got kicked out of BLUE five years ago and nearly executed for a murder he stumbled into. Now he is forbidden from detective work, and something inside him keeps putting lives at risk. Totomaru, against all logic, turns out to be the one person who can stop it. So the two of them start taking cases, one after another, while BLUE sends its own people to sniff around and find out if their disgraced genius has gone back to work. Murderers, rogue detectives, even the Metropolitan Police are on their tail. Can a bumbling cop and a man who cannot be around other people actually keep each other alive long enough to see justice done?
