Mei Tachibana learned early that friends are a trap. Back in grade school they pinned a class pet's death on her, and the same kids who smiled at her the day before just drifted off and became strangers. So she built a wall and decided nobody gets close enough to hurt her again. Then Yamato Kurosawa shows up, popular, smiling, way too sure of himself, and he just will not leave her alone. He asks to be her friend like it's the simplest thing in the world. She wants none of it. Then one night a stalker won't back off, and Yamato kisses her to get rid of him. That's the moment the wall cracks. Turns out he likes her, turns out she likes him back, and suddenly she has a boyfriend and actual friends, two things she never asked for. Which sounds great until she has to say what she feels out loud, and the words get stuck somewhere between her chest and her throat. Every misunderstanding, every other girl circling Yamato, every awkward silence pulls them closer and pushes them apart at the same time. She's slowly figuring out what those three little words actually mean. But can someone who spent years refusing to need anybody ever really let one person in?
