Salamander
Latis is burning. The Space Dragon Salamander and the Bacterian war fleet tear through everything in orbit, and nothing the planet throws at them lands a scratch. Lord British watches his home come apart, out of options, until three pilots from Gradius drop out of the sky to fight beside him. Now rewind. Before any of that, a girl arrives on Gradius from somewhere far off with a warning nobody wants to hear, and three ordinary people start down the road that turns them into the heroes of the galaxy. Then fast forward. A peace treaty is signed, everyone exhales, and the Bacterians snatch one of those heroes anyway. Gradius has the guns. The remaining heroes have the nerve. What they do not have is time, because whatever the Bacterians have planned for their prisoner is worse than simply letting him die. Can anyone reach him before the treaty becomes the shortest peace in history?
