Giant robots called Labors were supposed to make construction easier. They did. They also made crime easier. So Tokyo police built their own, and rookie Noa Izumi, a woman who loves machines more than most people, got handed the keys to one. She named it Alphonse. Then she meets her new coworkers. A grumpy rich kid, a hotheaded fellow pilot, a whole squad of oddballs who treat the job like a family argument with sirens. Their beat is not glamorous. Crazy construction crews, eco terrorists, something that might be a ghost, something that might be a sea monster. Noa has to keep Alphonse running while figuring out where she fits in a unit that barely fits together. Between the paperwork and the giant robot fights, can a rookie who talks to her machine like a pet really hold a city together?
