Ninja Scroll
Jubei Kibagami sells his sword to whoever pays. A masterless ninja drifting through feudal Japan, he has had enough of warlords and their backroom games. Then he crosses paths with Kagero, a female ninja who survives an ambush that wipes out her entire clan. Her touch kills instantly, and that is the least strange thing about her. The attackers belong to the Devils of Kimon, eight ninja with powers that should not exist. One turns his skin to stone. They are tied to a plague that emptied a whole village, and to something bigger: a plot to topple the government. When a spy poisons Jubei and dangles the antidote over his head, walking away stops being an option. Hunting the Devils means digging through layers of shadow leaders and old betrayals, and it leads him toward a face he never expected to see again. Can a man who trusts no one cut his way to the truth before the poison, or the Devils, finish him first?
