Three schoolgirls walk the same route every morning. Yuuko talks too loud, Mai keeps a straight face, Mio drags her feet. Then a crow bites someone, the principal body-slams a deer on the school grounds, and a robot girl named Nano burns the toast while an eight-year-old professor in a lab coat scolds her. Their talking cat Sakamoto mostly judges everyone from the floor. Nobody in this town finds any of it strange. That is the trick. Mai looks like the serious one until she quietly ruins someone's whole afternoon for fun. Yuuko seems like pure chaos, yet she is the first to help when someone needs it, usually in the weirdest way possible. And Mio, sweet, ordinary Mio, hides a drawer full of racy manga she drew herself and would rather die than let anyone read. Even the side characters are like this: a rich farm kid rides his goat to class, a girl is way too into firearms, two guys play a board game with the intensity of a war. Nothing here builds toward some big finale. A rainstorm, an unfinished essay, dinner that never gets cooked: it all lands somewhere between boring and completely insane. So why does a walk to school with these people feel like the most important thing in the world?
