Takeru Shirogane gets one more shot at his home world, thanks to Professor Yuuko's tech and Kasumi's psychic pull. No time to waste. He needs Yuuko to finish Alternative IV, the only card humanity has left against the BETA. Training wraps up, cadets graduate from Yokohama, and for a second it almost feels like things might hold together. Then the test run goes wrong. Giant Tactical Surface Fighters, a brand new operating system, and the BETA drop right on top of them. Takeru barely crawls out alive, and he watches one of his closest friends die badly. Something in him snaps. He runs, straight back to the other world, hoping to hide. That world hands him the same tragedy all over again. Yuuko thinks she knows why: people from parallel universes are tied to the same fate, no matter which door they walk through. So he can stand there and let it happen twice, or he can pull himself together and fight for the people he loves. But if every version of him is destined to lose them, what is the point of going back at all?
