Takeru Shirogane jolts awake from a nightmare: humanity crushed, the war lost. Then the details start lining up with a life he never lived. He was a soldier in another version of this world, and he remembers how it ends. Alternative V sends a few hundred thousand people into space and leaves the other billion down here to die. So he walks into a military base in Yokohama that used to be his high school. Not as a student this time. He corners Yuuko Kouzuki, the vice commander and the woman running Alternative IV, and talks her into backing the plan he already knows will work. But talking is the easy part. He has to climb into a Tactical Surface Fighter, one of those towering humanoid machines, and learn to fight in it alongside the other cadets. Two months. That is all the training he gets before the timetable runs out and the future he remembers comes true anyway. He knows scraps of what is coming, but knowing is not the same as stopping it. What happens when the memories run out?
