Natsumi Mizuki is eleven, her parents are in London, and her aunt Izumi has moved in. Izumi writes manga, or tries to, and a crying baby is the last thing she needs. Then on Natsumi's first night alone, during a thunderstorm, a toddler appears in the living room. Her name is Mirai. She is Natsumi's daughter, born fifteen years from now, and somehow she fell backward through time. So a fourth grader now has to feed her, change her, hide her from the neighbors, and still show up to class with her homework done. Izumi helps, sort of. There are gadgets from the future too, which solve one problem and create two more. Mirai is small and loud and impossible to explain. Natsumi is not much bigger. But she is the mother, and there is no one else. How do you raise a child you have not had yet, keep her a secret from every adult you know, and survive the fourth grade at the same time?
