A witch's daughter turns thirteen and the rule is simple. You leave home for a year, find a town, make it on your own. Kiki packs her mother's broom, whistles for Jiji, and off they go. The black cat talks plenty, mostly complaints. Then comes Koriko, a pretty port town with gulls and steep streets, and nobody there asked for a witch. She sleeps in a bakery doorway until Osono, who runs the place and has a soft spot for strays, trades a room for a little help. Kiki's only real skill is flying. So she hangs a sign, straps packages to the broom, and starts dropping off other people's parcels across the harbor. The work is harder than it looks. Winds shove her off course, customers are fussy, and some days the deliveries go fine while everything else falls apart. Can a girl who only knows how to fly figure out how to land somewhere she actually belongs?
