Hyouma Kunato still hates tsukumogami. One of them killed his older brother and sister, and he has not forgotten. These days, though, he lives under the same roof as a whole family of them: Botan Nagatsuki and her household of living objects, each with a human face and the memories of the thing it used to be. He has started to relax around them. That does not mean he has given up on revenge. While he trains in Kyoto with the Kadomori family, a trio of instrument tsukumogami called the Bureau of Traditional Music starts making moves. They corner Botan's family with pointed questions about why Hyouma is allowed so close to the girl who stands on the border between the human world and the marebito. Then the paper umbrella he has chased for years walks back into his life and takes Botan, along with her university friends. He swore to protect her. Now he has to run. But the thing he has wanted to destroy for so long is right there in front of him. Which promise does he keep?
