We trust our phones with everything. Every message, every late night video call, every scrap of our lives gets swallowed up by screens we never think twice about. Then a security camera in a parking garage picks up something it has no business recording. A face on a video chat shifts into something that should not be there. The people on the other end of those feeds are just ordinary folks, and by the time they understand what is watching, the doors are already shut behind them. The thing hunting them does not need to break in. It travels the way we do now, through signals and social networks, slipping between devices like it was always meant to be there. Cameras keep their eyes open all day and all night, and they have seen a world we never suspected. That is where it hides. Every victim fights to shake off whatever has latched onto them, but escape is not the worst thing waiting at the end of this. What could possibly be worse than death?
