Kagome thinks she's just helping her little brother haul a cat out of the family well. Then a centipede demon bursts out of the dark and demands a jewel she has never heard of. She falls. When she climbs back up, the shrine is gone. Just fields, a village, and a sky she doesn't recognize. Turns out she's the reincarnation of Kikyou, the shrine maiden who died fifty years ago, and the jewel is sealed inside her body. The same demon comes back for it. To fight it off, Kagome has to wake Inuyasha, a half demon pinned to a tree by Kikyou's arrow. He opens his eyes, sees her face, and calls her a name that isn't hers. He hates Kikyou. He's not thrilled about Kagome either. The jewel gets shattered in the fight, its shards flung to every corner of the land, and now these two have to travel together, arguing the whole way, chasing pieces of a rock that monsters want as badly as they do. Can they find all of it before someone with worse plans does?
