Lucy Heartfilia is seventeen and has exactly one plan for her life: get into Fairy Tail, the most famous wizard guild in the kingdom of Fiore. Then a trip to Hargeon goes sideways. She runs into a boy who can barely survive a carriage ride without turning green, and he turns out to be Natsu, the Salamander himself, a member of the very guild she has been chasing. Just like that, her wish comes true. Except Fairy Tail is less a dignified institution and more a demolition crew with a stamp. Gray keeps freezing things and losing his clothes. Erza walks in and grown wizards go quiet. Natsu picks fights with both of them on a good day. Lucy moves through jobs, monsters, and money that never quite lasts, and somewhere in all that chaos these people start to feel like family, the kind you would burn a town down for. But every disaster they survive circles back to the same name: Zeref, the dark wizard everyone whispers about and nobody wants to meet. So what happens when the guild that laughs the loudest finally stands face to face with him?
