A plant-eating dinosaur finds an abandoned egg and carries it home to her nest. It hatches. Out comes a predator, small and blinking. She can't leave it to die, so she names him Heart and raises him in hiding next to her own child. He grows up hungry in a way nobody in his family understands, and once he realizes meat is the only thing that keeps him alive, he slips away in shame. Years pass. Heart is a feared hunter now, all teeth and muscle. Then he stumbles on an egg that belongs to a species he'd normally eat, and the newborn that pops out looks pretty tasty. The little plant-eater looks up at him and decides Heart is his dad, and that his own name must be Umasou. Delicious. Heart can't bring himself to eat a kid who worships him, so he takes the baby in. Now he has to feed a mouth that can't eat what he eats, in a world with no patience for a predator playing father. What happens when the boy grows old enough to ask what his dad really is?
