Nono has spent her whole life in a dusty Martian town, hearing stories about the legendary pilot Nono-Riri. She wants out. She wants a cockpit, a mission, and a life that actually means something. Then she runs into Lal'C Melk Mark, a real Topless pilot with an attitude and no patience for tagalongs. Nono doesn't care. She latches on, follows her, and somehow talks her way into the Fraternity, where girls with special powers climb into giant Buster Machines to fight a swarm of Space Monsters nobody even remembers the origin of. Lal'C becomes the big sister Nono never had. The dream gets closer. The danger gets worse. Because Nono still has no idea what she's signed up for, and Lal'C is not exactly the mentoring type. Can a simple girl from the countryside really keep up with pilots who were born for this war, or is she about to find out she was never meant to be here at all?
