Past sunset, the capital goes quiet. Anyone still walking the streets in the middle of the city is not coming home. The Onmyouji sorcerers keep a barrier humming around the palace up north, and from there it looks like the whole place is safe. It is not. Horrors slip in through gates from the Makai of Darkness, grab a body, and feed on the soul inside it. Regular people have nobody standing between them and that except a small handful of fighters working in the dark. Raikou wears the golden armor and says he will shield everyone. Problem is, the armor bites back. Its side effects wreck him, and he knows it. Kintoki stays at his side, Seimei watches with that unreadable alchemist calm, and the gap between the knight Raikou wants to be and the one he actually is keeps getting wider. So he walks away from the capital to get his weaknesses under control and earn the armor properly. Can a man who could not handle the power he already had ever grow strong enough to carry it?
