Heaven Official's Blessing Special

A quiet night at Puqi Shrine. Incense smoke, cooling tea, two figures sitting close. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng trade stories about what they have just been through, and for once nothing is trying to kill them. Then Hua Cheng says something that lands a little too close, peeling back a layer of Xie Lian that even Xie Lian tends to skip over. An old memory surfaces, one of those cringe-worthy ones you wish would stay buried, and it shows him exactly how far he has drifted from the person he was at his earlier ascensions. The heavens have mocked him, thrown him out, written him off more than once. He keeps believing in people anyway, keeps seeing the good in them even when it costs him. So who is really being tested here: Xie Lian, or everyone watching him refuse to give up?
