Gantz
Kei Kurono jumps onto the tracks to pull a homeless man off the rails. He dies down there. Then he opens his eyes in a Tokyo apartment with strangers who all died too, and a black ball sits in the middle of the floor. No angels. No light. The ball opens, hands out guns and skintight suits, and says one thing: hunt the alien. Then it drops them somewhere dark. Kei finds his childhood friend Masaru Katou in the room, plus a woman neither of them knows, and the three of them try to figure out the rules while something moves in the shadows. The suits are not armor. The guns have a range. People who freeze die first, and the ball does not explain anything twice. What it wants is obedience, and what it gives back is a chance to walk out alive, maybe. So what happens when the game keeps going and nobody ever asks if you wanted to play?
