Women's soccer in Japan is barely hanging on. Fewer teams, smaller crowds, schools cutting what they can't fund. Nozomi Onda doesn't care about any of that. She played with the boys in middle school and ran circles around them, and she figures a girls' team would just slow her down. She only turns it on when the opponent deserves it. Then there's Sumire Suou, fifteen, in love with the sport and still waiting for it to love her back. Middle school gave her nothing but losses. Her talent is real, but the team around her can't keep up, and it's been eating at her for years. So the two of them end up at Warabi Seinan High, on the same girls' team, along with Sumire's friend and rival Midori Soshizaki. Onda got talked into it by her old coach. Suou came for her own reasons, none of them simple. Now they're teammates, which is its own kind of problem. Onda wants a fight worth having. Suou wants one good moment, something to make the losing worth it. The team around them is raw, the sport is fading, and neither girl is the type to carry anyone. Every practice turns into a test of who deserves the ball. Can a single second on the pitch change everything Suou has been waiting for?
